Hekla Petursson is an Icelandic-American filmmaker based in Richmond, Virginia. At the age of 13, she released her first short film; at 14, her first award-winning documentary; and at 17, she began working in television news before studying cinema, leadership, and musical theatre at Virginia Commonwealth University. Today, she works 9-to-5 at WRIC ABC Channel 8 and spends the rest of her time as a production filmmaker, predominantly working as a Director and Assistant Director. She enjoys exploring surrealism to tell LGBTQ+ and mental health stories
